Pay or Contest a Parking Ticket

You have 28 days to pay an infringement after getting it. Failure to do so will result in further action and additional costs to you. Find out how to pay a parking fine and how to apply for a payment plan or extension.

If you believe the infringement was issued incorrectly or that there were circumstances preventing you from being able to park legally, you can request a review of your infringement.

This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week commencing three days after the date of the infringement

Step 2.Find your infringement number

To proceed you will need to provide your notice number as shown below, and enter the amount you are required to pay.

You will need a credit card to pay online. Parking infringements must be paid in full. City of Melbourne does not accept part payments.

In Person

Step 1.Bring your infringement ticket 

You can pay via this method as soon as you receive your parking infringement notice. To pay in person, you will need to bring your infringement notice or know the licence plate number of the vehicle you are paying for.

Step 2.Visit Town Hall, or

Visit us at 120 Central Street, Russell Point. The cashier's desk is open between 7.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays). Cash, Visa or Mastercard only.

Step 3.Visit Australia Post

Pay by cash, EFTPOS or cheque at any post office within 28 days of receiving your parking infringement notice. Find your nearest Australia Post locations and hours here.

Step 1.Get your info ready

Find your parking ticket number. If you lost your ticket number, use your plate or registration number. Also have a payment method ready - please note that over the phone we only accept credit cards.

By Mail

Step 1.Write a letter to the City

The letter to the City needs to include your ticket and registration number, your name and address, and your cash payment for the fine. Because you are sending money, please be sure to use notes where possible and minimise coins. We take no responsibility for money that may be lost due to ripped envelopes.  

Step 2.Mail your information to the City

Keep in mind

  1. You must pay the fine within three weeks of getting your ticket. An extension of time to pay may be granted at the Cities sole discretion, to apply, please contact Point Russell council
  2. If you have lost a parking fine and need the reference number to pay it, please call us on 2392 92839 - have your vehicle registration number handy.
